Holy blog. I'm continually humbled by the mighty powers of the interweb. To be true, the appeal of blogging is mainly its efficiency. I much prefer the proximity of individual email. Alas, close-to-constant travel likely won't allow for it. Scale is everything.

I'm setting off to travel for most of the year and I want to keep connected to friends and family while away. The last two years brought me the good fortune of a whole new family of friends, while my absorption in the "work hard, play hard" life style of grad school challenged my capacity to keep adequate touch with too many of my loved ones. My hope is that this space will help keep us connected. I will commit to posting pictures, maps, and updates on my whereabouts over the course of the trip. From all of you, I would like the virtual company of your comments, questions, gibes, updates, general heckling, etc
